Meet Shalina

Shalina being ridiculously excited to meet a Hawthorn tree. Did you know that Hawthorn is excellent for all sorts of heart maladies including arrhythmia, angina, high blood pressure, congestive heart failure and broken hearts? The Celts, Greeks, Romans, and Germanic people all believed it was a sacred tree. They were right.

Shalina Nicohl Rankin, Herbalist and Founder of Fiery Maple Wholistic Healing, Inc. is delighted that she gets to spend her time aiding people to manage their health concerns with natural remedies. It is her passion.

In 2018, after over a decade as a marketing-communications professional Shalina completed an Herbal Medicine Apprenticeship at the Scottish School of Herbal Medicine on the Isle of Arran, Scotland. Leaving her career and home to immerse herself in the world of healing plants and train under internationally renowned Master Herbalist, Keith Robertson, was one of the scariest decisions she ever made. It was also one of the best.

In 2015, she earned her certificate of completion in Herbal Studies from the Habitat Reskill Center of Ann Arbor, founded by Master Herbalist Peggy Jones. In addition, she has been a life-long student of the healing power of nature.  Learning since childhood from her grandma, Esther C. Hooks, who carried on the tradition of using herbs to heal from her grandmother, Lenora Knapper Williams, esteemed midwife. The healing tradition is literally in her blood.

Shalina Rankin is a native of Washtenaw County, Michigan. She spent her formative years in Belleville, Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor, MI.

As a former Division I athlete and fifteen-year student of classical ballet (Cecchetti method), she has a special affinity for athletes, dancers, and performers who are searching for ways to maximize their mental, physical, and emotional health while undergoing the rigors of training.

Shalina holds a B.A. from the University of Michigan and is currently studying to become a Naturopathic Doctor at The Naturopathic Institute of Therapies and Education.
